Nice car! Welcome.
Thanx again for the warm welcome. A couple more weeks and I should have the motor started. I am checking out the wiring right now. I need to take some new photos. Propwash - I'm glad the finish panel info was helpful. It was and is definitely a learning experience for me. I wish I had an air brush. They aren't that expensive either. hummm. One of the problems was that I used clear on the whole panel before doing the detailed work so when I took the tape off some of the clear came off and also left some glue from the tape. I just wasn't happy with it. I just picked up some sublime from totally auto ($25 a can...ouch) and will be honing my painting skills in the near future. The lady at totally auto said they do the letters by hand. She didn't sound to confident with her answer, so I'm not sure. If I mess it up again I will just strip it and start over. What do I have to lose.
Well I guess on the bright side Mike, once it's all said and done and you are truley happy with your finish panel, you're gonna be a friggin wizard at those things man. A Pro! Little side business?? Fran over at the DCR would probably give you his soul if you could pefect his for him. 25 Bucks!!! wow, that is steep. Good luck with this go around Mike. You ever end up rounding up a 3-speed wiper motor so that 6pack air cleaner fits in? Can't wait to see that bad boy on the road! Take care
Hi Mike! Ex-Detroiter, now in the Thumb! Welcome!
I don't know about a finish panel side business, but I can definitely make them look a lot better. I called around locally for some sublime paint and they said, " well it could be off in color slightly, but we can add tint and if that doesn't work we will refund your money." I said ok, well how much for a can? They said $40 bucks. WOW, for 12 oz.!!!!! I called totally auto and they said they spent years getting the color right and the price is $25. So I went with them. They use PPG paints too. As far as the three speed motor. I have one guy locally diggin one out for me to see and another guy that has one for sale from the DCR as well. Being 40 yr. old parts these things don't look that great, but may clean up pretty good. We will see. Hey Scott. thanx for the reply. My buddy is thinking of having a small detroit area car show this summer. He lives on a dead end street and has a large yard. Several guys are finishing projects, so we will see.
Mike, We are lucky enough to have a great automotive paint store in town here called "Automotive Paint Specialists" they have all the old paint chip books with codes to mix em up correctly. They have the 4oz bottles w/brush for $6 bucks or premix the 20oz spray cans for $17. I gotta swing down there this week for some seam sealer, I could pick you up some and send it over if you want.. Good luck with the three speed motor, let me know if it pans out for ya. I have a friend that might have one as well...I'll ask him tonight, see if he put it on moparts or not. Take Care
that's great on the paint. I will let you know if I need more. Thanx. More options for a 3 speed motor can't hurt. I hear back from one of my connections tomorrow.
Super sweet looking ride! I like the Sublime color. I just media blasted a 70 Challenger that was painted that color in a re-paint, and original was that color too. Again, nice ride and welcome!
