Hot Rod Power Tour 2020

Another all east of the Mississippi run?

It’s funny that you guys mention that. I had a conversation with Keith Turk at Drag Week a few years ago and he said the reason for the location is that the majority of the readership is in the midwest.

I know, I know all the excuses too :poke:

& that's were 70% of the nations population lives too
North &/or east of the Mississippi & Ohio River valley

1 every 10 or so years anywhere out west would be a nice change
even just this side of the damn Rockies

I know all their reasons, all the logistics, the demographics &/or
the paid contributors, paid suppliers, paid for sponsors etc.
paid for facilities, tracks, revisit same ol' paid for venues etc. etc. etc.
all are back east, northeast or Midwest, so many places to visit etc.

sorry "Yawn", same ol' bias deal, same ol' $$$ driven deal

NOT ALL OF THE CAR CULTURE IS BACK THERE EITHER
we have a huge car industry/suppliers & huge car culture here in
Calif., Nevada, Or., Wash., Utah, Idaho & in Co. etc. too
Plenty to see & do out here too, many venues, touristy BS
& even races & several tracks, the Pacific Ocean/Coastline
The Sierras, The Redwoods, Heartland/Valley

the very 1st Power Tour
was started here in Calif. Route 66 by staff & friends at/of HotRod
at/near the LA pier, to Ill. other end in ChiRaq at some historic plaque
there weren't that many participants either
Real HotRods, real PowerTour :poke:

I drove down some 400+ miles from Concord to LA
then drove sort of along with the group, it wasn't very organized "yet"
I got to Oklahoma & had to turn back...
I had to cut it short &go back to work,
emergency at a couple dealerships (long story)

I spent a lot of time on the road & getting ready
to get to LA & driving rt-66 & then getting back to Calif. too
well over $10,000 later & a week & a 1/2 later
& I didn't even go to the end

don't get me wrong;
It was fun times, for me, my dad driving my Motorhome & trailer,
my Lisa (was still alive), my dog Duke (also gone now)
my 68 RR in full race tune, in 3.73:1 gears IIRC was the only real change...
Other than getting shitty gas/water in a couple places...
It was relatively trouble free...
I'd have spent $20,000+ & almost a month, better part of 3 weeks+
off & on my much needed vacation, if I did the whole tour...

IMO many can't take that much time &/or $$$$,
just to do the Power Tour
& just to support their paid for sponsors/advertisers etc., back east
with little to no considerations for all of US out west...

It's just a snub to many of US back/out here

Org. it was not just cruisers & newer era Muscle Cars
with a spattering of cool muscle era cars
&/or 1,000 renditions of a 55-57 tri-5 Chevys
or 1,000 67-73 Camaros/Chevelles/Novas
or 1,000 Mustangs of every year
or mini-trucks & Caddys "posers" not many real hotrods
like it was for a couple years

& I haven't been since, it's always back east somewhere

closest it's been is Texas IIRC since

I think that’s why Rocky Mountain Race Week started as it’s a competitive event to Drag Week. I’m not a big power tour guy as it’s basically a mobile car show and I’m not a car show guy but I like the driving part and the dyno pulls at the events. A west coast event would be a nice change.

I've not heard of the Rocky Mountain Race Week
or I have & just didn't acknowledge it for some reason

I'm not a big car show guy either...
I like a race or an event along the way...
Even to just spectate, if I don't have something to run competitively...
IMO more than just a Car show, drawings, BBQ & Band
in paid for venue, in some parking lot, every 200-300 miles...

Albeit I do like to visit some of the better venders, SEMA/Performance type's...

Here’s the link to RMRW. SEMA isn’t really a car show in my book. Attending that would be amazing. It’s on my bucket list.

Just to keep anybody interested in the know...I have already switched my hotel dates...I hope to see you there!!!

I wonder if it will "actually" ever/even happen this year ?
rescheduling or not

from what some of the pundits are saying
there will be some serious restrictions
& especially on larger public gatherings for some time still

good luck & have fun hopefully

That’s a far point Budnicks. Hopefully things will clear up and be a little more normal. This route looks to be going thru Columbus, my daughter is there attending OSU. I may have to consider trying to go the first couple days. I could stay with her and we could do the drive to Indy.

One of my bucket list things is to get my car more resto-mod like and take Route 66 from IL to CA to the pier. I think it would be great have the power tour go west or north west.

Most car gatherings are usually focused on those types of cars; that's why I usually dont go to anything car related anymore. Hell at the last San Diego Mopar meet someone brought a Nomad and a 6th generation Yenko Camaro lol. Waste of time...

The farther west you go you will find more of RT66. It switches back and forth with I40. Most of the time it is well marked. Some of it parallels. It is for sure a bucket list item.We frequently visit Rt66 on motorcycles thru Arizona.

Very cool. My mom and her boyfriend road his Harley from Illinois to the pier several years ago. They had a fantastic time. They planned it to get to California in time for his grandsons academy graduation.

Old road maps are a great help. Even a google search for Rte 66 will give it location. But like said some has been absorbed in new roadways.

Riverdawg, You stated your car is not worthy ? Sure it is. I took my 65 2 years in a row as a long hauler. Interior wasn't done.Sat on western blankets for seat covers.3 different colors of blue paint.Hung out with guys from Year One,Comp Cams,Mopar Muscle Magazine. and several of the Hot Rod Staff. Never once did I get turned away from a parking spot. I even got to park with the Keisler TKO crew at their site as I had their conversion kit in my car. That was '04 & '05.This photo was shot by the Mopar Muscle Crew.Rusty fenders and all !
