A porcupine - damn, that’s one of the few things I’ve not had stumble into my live trap - fortunately. I think I would treat him with the same respect as a skunk.

A skunk dug under my front concrete stairs and on occasion would spray that area which filtered into the house. about 4 years ago it was happening often enough where I purchased a trap and skunk was in season. I baited the trap with peanut butter on bread. In 4 weeks I caught 12 skunks, 1 racoon, 9 squirrels, 1 ground hog and 1 very angry cat. Never anything like that though. He seems pretty relaxed.

As I walk closer to the cage, the quills start standing straight up.
I have one of those quilted moving blankets I picked up from Harbor Frieght. I fold it in half and hold it up in front of me as I approach the trap and ease it over the top. If a skunk can't see you he won't waste a shot on you or just doesn'rt recognize the blanket as a threat. Never had one spray yet from in the trap. Imagine it works the same for that critter as well.

I covered the cage with a couple towels when I moved it into the truck. It didn't like that.

The MNR introduced these to deal with the overpopulation up here some years ago.... the Fisher. The Porcupines only predator. The Fisher runs up the trees and chases the Porcupine out a limb until it falls to the ground, then runs back down the tree and zips the belly of the Porcupine open and eats it all up. These bastards are one step below a Wolverine... don't go near one..
