Tried installing the 727 shift linkage today and got kicked square in the nuts. It just doesn't seem to wanna fit. Are the linkages different between a 904 and 727, specifically the gear shift linkage that goes from the frame rail to the trans? The one I took off the 904 seems too long and hits the bell housing before it's in position to bolt up. BTW, it's a 1977 727 behind a 1966 block, if that makes any difference. Couple pics below, hope they help. I'm at a standstill.

Yes it different the 904 is narrower so the linkage is wider. Can you cut and weld, or know someone who does? Cut about 5/8” out of the middle of the shaft and weld it back together, don’t change the clocking. Doing this will move that flat strap away from the trans, that will rub the bracket right now.

The arm on the down shaft is not correct. As post #3 says, either shorten what you have or get the 727 down shaft.

Thx 413, that's just the info I needed.
