I have a 69 Sport Satellite. I am installing the windshield and have done roped in glass in the past but the way that the seal just sits on the front of dash and window channel in front is new to me. do you use any type of sealant at the lower part of the gasket? (some type of butyl?) Between the gasket and metal? Mine was out when i got it? Also do you put any urethane in the channel for the glass? I know some people recommend this at least at the bottom and a little up each side. I really wish they had a regular pinch weld like the rear would make things much easier.

The FSM says to use a sealer (silicone today) across the entire bottom of the cowl and a few inches up on the sides. The sealer goes both between the metal/gasket and the gasket/window.

Some silicone is acid curing, not the best choice on painted metal. Butyl windshield adhesive might be a better choice...

Thanks guy's I am not fond of the silicone option being a body guy and all but a liquid butyl? would work anyone have a product they like for this application? Thanks again for any input.

My window was already out to and I was thinking the same thing looking at the bottom seal area "what the hell"? CDR gave some tips on how he put his in and I think he used a Urethane sealant but you'd have to check his build thread to be certain. I'm with you on the silicone "not a big fan". Looks like I'm not to far behind you "I'm hoping to be buying a window soon" so I'll have to check out your install. Good luck

Butyl ,go to any glass shop and buy a tube. Goes in a caulk gun.

Stay away from Silicone any time with Glass. It expands and contracts at a different rate than the butyl rubber gasket. Use The 3 M Windshield Caulk, it sets at the same rate as the Rubber gasket and is made to stay soft.

Thanks guys. Will try to find. The glass guys around here use urethane they said they won't use butyl at all. Will call the body supply co. I use. Will be spending next 3 days in the woods harassing the deer so will wait till next week.

Over time silicone also will leech into the glass. Autobody tool mart should have the urethane.

I was trying to stay away from urethane. I have that and will use on rear glass. Was looking for something like a butyl calk not the strips but in a tube. Urethane would be a bummer to get off if you had to pull glass and get to the dash bolts.

when you go to use the tube of sealer, warm in up under a 100 watt bulb for an hr or so, to get the softness an d ease of installation, and make a deep 3/8" vee cut on the tube tip to give a good bond, the glass shops do that ,
