Is it better to install the trunk lid spring with the hinges up?

Here you go. The 1/2 pipe that hook into the spring are 1" and I think smaller would work just as well. The notch is about 3/8".

Love that tool! 20+years ago when I had one break it took me and a buddy with some stout wire and turnbuckles to ease the new one in.

No one lost an eye and the trunk still worked fine when I sold it a few years back.
