Just wondering… Rev-N-Nator box

Recently a member contacted me about this, and I thought was good to ask to the crowd!

One of the reasons I got it was RELIABILITY, maybe more than the advertised performance itself, which also was an objective.

Have you ever known about some failed Rev-N-Nador box in all these years?

Everybody can be happy or not with its performance (I was), but failed? I don’t think I have heard ever about a failed box.

I've had mine over a decade, used same one on multiple cars. It's been great for me.

Never. I just sold mine after a decade of trouble free use. Had to thin the parts herd and just kept my trusty MP chrome box and a spare summit box.

FWIW my BIL did back to back runs on a chassis dyno with the only change being the installation of a Rev-en-ator in place of a Mopar Performance orange box, there was no horsepower gain whatsoever…

Did you take it to 6000+ RPM on the dyno? That's where the parts store orange box of old was complete garbage, it would break up over 5k. And the rev n nator has a rev limiter.

I have one on one of my cars. It has to be close to 15 years old now with no issues.

I do believe the claim that There is no power in ignition.
The Chrysler engineers made these claims and even Rick Ehrenberg agrees. Unless the engine is boosted or on nitrous, even a simple points ignition system lights the fire just fine.
Mopar Muscle did a test using the REV box and compared it to (I think) two other well known ECUs....an orange box and a parts store replacement "Wells" unit. The HP claims seemed impossible, to the point where the REV unit was well over 20 HP above the Wells unit.
I bought one and found zero difference. I did like the rev limiter though. They did seem to have a good reliability record.
They haven't made these in several years though, right?

Out of the six I bought I only had one fail - somehow a component or connection bled through the potting mix on the back and the unit stopped working.

I contacted Troy and Laura via email and telephone to talk about the problems. They promptly sent a replacement to me, and it worked fine. The damaged unit was binned....they didn't need it back.

I couldn't fault them or their service - a credit to the Industry. My last new unit was sold back to a member here on FBBO in USA. He subsequently sold it on after changing direction from what I can gather.

Not sure what orange box you're referring to, but a good Ole orange box will happily go to 8 grand on juice. Not that I wanted to see it do that.

One can debate which Mopar ECU is the best for a long time..
For my 70 RR I have tried multiple Mopar ECUs, SMP, orange box, chrome box,
gold box, MSD, FBO..
I don't have a dyno but can honestly say they all produced very similar horse power..
But one thing I did note was that each ECU had a different latency spec...
So one has to go back and double check the impact on timing and frequently reset this..

I had 1 to fail with only a few miles on it. I had an extra orange box in the car. Plugged it up and it started. Troy and Laura sent me another one with no questions asked. I did send the other one in. Ran it 1000 miles before I went efi. They were awesome people to deal with.

I forgot to note that all of Mopar ECUs were original pre-90s OE Mopar NOS units....
My experience with later Mopar ECUs(post 2K) outsourced have had mixed results with questionable reliability..

I mainly bought mine for the rev limiter feature since I was going drag racing with a 4 speed car. It works great for about two years now.
