Is there an easy way to tell the difference if you have a 64 v/8 or a 66 v/8
k frame out of the car. I know the later k frame sits the engine back approx
1 3/4 in if you swap a later k frame into an early car. Also what do you have to
do with the trans crossmember?

Thanks for anyones help

Jeff, they're easy to discern. The early model will have slotted holes on top of the mounting stands for "square mounting pads", and the idler arm will be 'exposed' on the top. It's only secured from the bottom.

The later model k-members use a 'captive' bracket to hold the idler arm in place and most will have engine mounting holes that run north to south (parallel to the frame rails).

On the trans X member, it's a simple mod, but you'll have to customize it for engine setback - or simply use a later model X-member which is designed to accomodate it.

Hope this helps.

More clarity on difference. the 66 67 also have a 'non captive' idler bracket. Key is the through hole mount for later insulator bolts.
