Keeping the hood down at high speed 62-63 Fury

Anything over 70 MPH on 62 Fury the edges of the hood come up and make me uncomfortable! I remember the 63 Fury doing the same thing. I don’t want to use hood pins, maybe Dzus fasteners would be ok. I think the grill design might be part of the problem, or I just drive too fast!

I was having thoughts the other day about this on mine. I'm not on the road yet, so hearing about your corners really has me thinking.

Is it the front corners?

Yes the front corners start coming up maybe 1/3-1/2 inch at 75mph. Gets worse after that (I’m told)

I'm thinking there isn't enough down pressure on the latch mechanism. The corners bottom out against the rubber adjusters. It should take some effort to raise the corners.

I’m sure drag racers could they us if this is common on a 62 Plymouth. Looks good parked!

Problem being 62 63 hoods are very thin metal. And have a crappy center support.

Lol, I remember my former father-in-law telling me about '57 Ford fenders flopping in the wind!

Not sure on that car, but I had a '68 Dodge Truck. If you look at most of those truck, they usually have a nice crease in the hood from hitting the cab roof. I bolted a chain to the hood near the hood latch. The chain dropped down and wrapped around the lower (I think) grill support and I just used a pad lock to fasten it. It also doubled as a good hood lock so no one would steal my battery or other under hood parts.

If the latch and bumpers are adjusted properly,the hood won't move,mine on my 62 wagon won't at any speed !!

I’ll have to check it out a little closer. I never pay much attention until I happen to go too fast!

Car was built in the days of practically no or little speed constraints. If 70 mph is to fast there is a serious problem.

I know you said you don't want to use hood pins but I figured I could show you where mine are at to hold my glass hood down on my 63. My hood is a race type hood as its not a real thick glass and the pins I have in it you see here hold it down just great. It does not move or try to lift up even at 125 mph. I use a total of 7 pins (3 per side and one in the back center) but Dzus fastners will work the same. Ron

Looks fine but my car has the stock look and I will keep it that way unless I want to go fast like you

This 62 has hood pins. I'll bet you can't see them.

My '62 Dodge has the safty latch but I was trying to think of a way to back that up, just in case it didn't hold. Not wanting to use a chain that would scratch everything up. I have to work on this.

I'm waiting to hear what DVW has going on.
