I too have had a bout with Kidney stones. When I could no longer stand the pain, I went to the hospital and told them to either cure me or kill me. That was the worst pain I have ever felt. I was on the floor in a fetal ball. I do not know how this compares to child birth because I have never birthed a child, but it is very bad. My doctor explained to me that there was a jagged stone in the ureter tube between the kidney and bladder, and as it worked it way through the tube, that sharp edge screeching against the wall of the ureter was the source of the pain. Since I could not afford lithotripsy (sonic bombardment to break up the stone), he suggested flooding my body with fluids to try and push the stone out of the ureter and into the bladder where it could be peed out, that finally worked. I sucks to be poor AND have a Kidney stone!!!
