Hello. I recently bought a '74 Charger, and once the shipper parked her for me (recent hip surgery), I asked him to lock the doors...not knowing that the locks were broke. When I placed the key in the locks on both sides, they just spin around and around. I asked the seller about this (he sorta "forgot to tell me." :angryfire:), and said that he used a "coat hanger to get in. In the meantime, I have replacement locks, but am wanting to know how to get into the car. Thoughts??? Thanks in advance!

The locks might be good, just not hooked up to the rod. Coat hanger or slim Jim might work if you can find the linkage.

Had to use a slim jim once in the military. Went to the barracks for lunch (naptime), and locked my keys in the damn car. Luckily, the MP's had a slim jim.

If you do not have a slim jim you can make a small wooden wedge and very carefully pry out the top of the glass and get a coat hanger in there with a small loop and hook the window winder as long as its not power windows and slowly unwind the window and your in

70's cars are super easy to get into.

Coat hanger between the glass and weatherstrip (be careful).

Takes a bit to figure the best bends, angle and shape of the hook or loop on the end....

Reminds me when I locked myself out of my RUNNING Cordoba at a stop sign, in the country far from anywhere, at 3am after a party (back in the 80's). I accidently hit the lock with my elbow when I exited the car to take a piss. I started walking down the road to hopefully get help (and a clothes hanger) and the only car that came in my direction was a cop! They were nice enough to drive me around to find a hanger and drove me back to my still running car , on the road at an intersection. I unlocked and off I went. Glad they didn't ask why I smelt like alcohol!

So yes, use a coathanger.

Not sure about that. The lock mechanism itself should only turn 90 degrees each way.

Just another good reason to not lock your doors. :) There's nothing in my car that's worth more than the cost of replacing a broken window.

You stole my line!

I've been known to hide a stretched out coat hanger in the valance.

You never know.
