Need some direction on brands and type of bushings to use on my 68roadrunner. Pulled the motor out and looking to replace as much as I'm able to due to being dry rotten torn and weathered. Need pretty much the whole front end as well as motor mounts and trans mount.

Should I go poly or rubber?
brand?
what else I should do while my motor is out?
any other info would help?

Not restoring car car back to factor specs due to money issues. Just needs a good facelift and improve any way I can.

Thanks all!
Matt

I chose to stay with rubber bushings as I'm not worried about handling. I put poly bushings on an old jeep I restored and though it tightened up the steering, the ride was much more harsh. Just my $0.02

Generally:

Poly = Handling / Harsher ride
Rubber = Comfort / Softer ride

There are several vendors for both. Poly I usually hear about PST and Energy Suspension. Rubber it's usually Moog. No matter which vendor you go with, you'll probably save money if you buy a kit instead of piecemeal parts.

While it's apart you'll probably want to replace all the ball joints if it's within budget.

If you are considering changing brakes, now is definitely the time as you've got it all torn apart already.

Rubber for the LCA for sure and would change out the Pivot shafts also, if you use POLY for UCA you better used a lot of grease because they will start squeaking, I'm changing my UCA back to rubber after 300-miles using POLY bushing for uppers, just my .02 cents also

You also might want to consider a torsion bar swap as well....You'll have to undo them to swap the lower bushings anyhow.

Make sure you change every joint and bushing in the front end. Not a job you want to do twice.
I ordered a complete kit from PST. It includes the idler and upper control arm bolts. The best way to disassemble the front end is to take out the torsion bar adjuster bolts. Next remove the upper control arm bumper (this is important). Remove rear torsion bar clips. Unbolt strut rod. Unbolt lower control arm nut. Pry lower control arm back , and it will push torsion bar out back. Pull torsion bar out.

Before unbolting anything, soak everything with penetrating oil and especially so on the torsion bar adjusting screws and best to clean all the dirt off that you can.

Make sure to replace the cam bolts too, it can be a real pain in the *** but to properly align your vehicle it is essential.
I am in the process of completing a motor project I started in April and I bought the entire front end kit from PST. I went with the poly bushings and the 1 1/8" front sway bar, I also added the 7/8' rear sway bar my Roadrunner never had. I also decided to go with the Hotchkiss 1.100" torsion bars because I'm not sure of the age of my current bars. I put skinny 26'' tires on the front and with a 7 qt pan its sits a little to low for my liking.
