I just bought an original 1968 GTX and trying to learn all the number checks? I have this on the block and transmission and what does these letters mean? numbers.jpg

Those should match the VIN number on your dash... They won't match the number on the fender tag or stamped into the trunk lip or the radiator support..

Wow did not know that. I though 68 and 69 where stamped the same.

Full disclosure.... I had no idea they were different till I got my 68 Coronet...I'd always played with 69/70 & 71 stuff.. Bought it off a guy who told me the whole story of coming home from Vietnam & getting the car & the girl....
Thirty some years later both were showing a few battle scars... Car was a mess, but it was so cheap I didn't even look at the tag, I'd seen the VIN & knew that said it was a real R/T convertible... Load it up & get it outta here before the guy changes his mind...

Got it home & discovered the VIN tag and the fender tag have different numbers.... WTH is the car stolen? Started digging into the books & learned a lot...

The letter A in the VIN stamping indicates Lynch Road. GTXs were also built in St. Louis (G), and Los Angeles (E). I've owned seven, and six came from Lynch Road. Your car reminds me of my avatar, it looked similar before some cleaning up, after first purchase in 1983. Hard to find them in that kind of shape today.

More importantly, do the numbers on the right bottom corner of the tag match the stamping on the radiator support and trunk lip?

Do the engine and trans stamped numbers match the VIN?
I thought 68 didn't have stamped numbers on radiator support and trunk lip?
