I bought the AC Delco 1995 and eBay adapter a couple weeks ago based on another thread of the same subject. I haven’t been able to install yet due to some family issues the past couple weekends.

I’m planning to install it this weekend into the 68 Coronet with 383/727 seen in my icon. The car has been sitting for a few years and I’m trying to get it started so hopefully a new battery and starter is all it needs. It ran fine when stored and manually turns by the crank pulley bolt.

When I googled the Amazon parts number it also popped up on Summit.

This is the area I had a problem with.
Don't remember exactly where, but a fair amount of material needed to be ground off.

In the above pics a few posts up, one unit has the drive "shaft" extending into the nose bushing, and the other does not.
Which is normal?

The two starters I tried did seem to have a gap on one side. Looked like a machining issue.

I ordered this starter, and it should be here for me to install tomorrow. I just hope the throw on the gear will be enough with this starter. I have to say though, it was allot cheaper than the other two I tried.

Now that I think about it, there was also an interference issue in the blue circled area-

You read about so many people dropping these into all types of big block classic Mopars without any issues. I wonder why a few people have issues.

Since Summit lists the same 1995 starter as Amazon, maybe they could shed some light on where any issues have been.

Everyone is saying "Just install a high-torque mini starter from a Dakota" but then there's cable extensions required and possible fitment issues due to machining...it's not a simple swap, evidently, and the vast number of different starter part numbers sure doesn't standardize things much...

Yeah, it really is disappointing.
I'd expect to soon see threads discussing the difficulty of adjusting a fan belt, checking for vacuum leaks, the frustration with installing spark plug wires and a thrilling exchange on what torque setting to use on air cleaner wing nuts.
Sure, we all start off knowing nothing but ANYONE that has spun a wrench should be able to encounter a few obstacles and figure a way around them.
If nothing else, one should accept advice from those that HAVE actually had their hands on these cars before.
Here is a fact that may be a HUGE shock to some people:
Since the majority of replacement parts nowadays are NOT manufactured by original suppliers to our cars when they were new, the fitment and quality may be and often is lower. Some stuff needs some work to fit and function properly.

obviously not a starter, but the general idea is there

I had to change the battle cable anyway, so I just used a longer one and cut it too length. Even if I had to go back to the OE starter, its still ok.

Now that I think about it, there was also an interference issue in the blue circled area-

I tried to use the shield as a template to test fit. The shield fits fine, but the starter still leaves a nice gap. The weird part is, nothing is protruding past the template on the starter. ‍ I give up, I’m going to get the OE one rebuilt, no choice

I measured them, they are both like 7/8'-1' wide. I'm not going to bother with this anymore. I found a rebuilder that has good reviews.
