New big money starters worth it?

Plus they don't have that sound which is a huge plus.
I really don’t care about the sound, which is odd because I like the cars just the way they came from the factory. But, I also like reliability, and I’ve been the victim of many a starter failure. My old 71 Dodge trucks starter gave out at the Nationals one year, had to change it with a fully loaded trailer, with a used starter I had to buy in the swap meet area.

eck... i have never had one fail luckily... hope to keep it that way :) I use a delco mini right now which i didn't expect to hold up, but not a single issue so far

I used to rebuild all of my own starters, alternators, master cylinders and brake cylinders until they told me that the rebuild kits have slowly been discontinued.

The last old school Chrysler starter I tried to return for a core. The auto parts store gave me a newer Dakota/Ram Magnum style starter in place of. They said there are no more old school cores left anymore to replace the older style starters.

I told them I probably had 30 starter cores and 30 alternator cores at homes in bins, but they couldn't buy them from me. They can only swap 1 new for 1 core.
