My 1963 Dodge Polara engine was replaced by the previous owner. He sold it to me as a 383.
I cannot seem to be able to decode the engine #s.
Block Casting No.: 2128854-8
Stamping No. under Dist. on passenger side: SC2-2548C
Valve covers are 4-bolt type
Can you help me Please.

The casting number is good for either the 361 or the 383.

Regarding engine stampings, "SC2-2548C" doesn't make sense to me. The first digit indicates year (S = 1962), the next 2 digits indicate the first 2 digits of displacement, 38 for 383 or 36 for 361.

So for a 1964 block, your stamping should be V36 for a 1964 361 or V38 for a 1964 383. The only other way to confirm displacement is to remove a head and measure bore.
