I wanted to install a set of MP Super Stock springs on my 1974 Roadrunner. I obtained a set of springs, a pair of P4120079 hangers, and a set of shackles from a guy who had them installed on a 1970 Roadrunner and thought they were too high for his liking.

The P4120079 hangers are supposed to be for older B bodies and 71-74 station wagons. The 71-74 coupes are supposed to use P4120080 hangers, which are a half-inch or so shorter than the P4120079 hangers. I was just going to take the P4120079 hangers and drill some holes a half inch back, but decided I would just pay the $69 and I ordered a set of P4120080 hangers from Jegs.

They came in today, and I went to put them on and found out the locations of the mounting studs are about 1/4" too far apart from top to bottom! There's no way to mount them to the car without drilling new holes. The P4120079 hangers for the 70 and older cars went on perfectly but not the P4120080 hangers.

There's no markings that I could find on the hangers themselves, so I don't know if I got the wrong set or what, but if they are actual P4120080 hangers, they damn sure don't fit on a 71-74 B body no matter what the catalogs say.

Bru, does the super stock spring use a different hanger than a regular spring, say if you had a 318 charger with regular springs, couldnt you just throw in the ss springs?

Mopar Performance only makes one size of Super Stock springs, and they were designed to for A bodies, so if you have an A body the springs will go right on. For everything else the springs are too short and you need special extended hangers and shackles to mount them. The stock hanger for a 71-74 B body is about three-inches long. The Super Stock one is two inches longer to make up for the shorter spring length.

You could possibly extend your stock hangers by welding in some flat bar? Or cut the hanger off the one piece and weld it on your stock hanger. Just throwing out ideas, I have been finding out as well that us 74 b body guys have things a little bit different. I Saw your thread about the diff perch on the leafs, with the iso pads, and had to do mods to mine as well, to get my new springs to work. Seeing this thread is a week old I'm sure you have it sorted by now.

The fix was sending the 71-74 hangers back to Jegs for a refund, and using the 68-70 hangers that came with the springs when I bought them. I lined up the stock hangers with them, used a scribe to mark where the stick hole was, and then measured out 1.25" from the center of that hole and marked the center of a new hole.

I drilled a new 5/8" inch hole 1.25" from where the stock hole would be and now everything looks to be where it should be.

You got before and after shots, did it make much of a difference in appearance or just ride-ability?

Sorry, I've been dodging rain clouds all weekend, but I'll try to get some pictures today. I don't see a lot of difference in ride height, but with the engine and trans out the height isn't what it's supposed to be anyway.

I have noticed when I look at the rear from a low angle and from a distance, I can definitely see that the passenger side is a tad bit higher than the driver's because of the extra leaf spring. When I look at the car from behind and standing up, I can't notice the difference.
