MSD Pro Billet distributor doesn’t fit in my 1968 440 RB-Block with Trickflow 240 heads ….

Ok originally it sounded like you were using some type of distributor spacer not a Valve cover spacer for Rocker clearance.. Can you post a pic of where it is actually hitting?
Yes, you right . Sorry I write only spacer not valve cover soacer for rocker clearance , my fault .
I not have actual a picture right away from the clearance problem but , I will re -check the clearance problem and if it just the valve cover spacer itself like “ Big A, “ said , I will grind them and make a picture after I clear it .

We had to grind about .030" out of my Trick Flow heads to get clearance for a MSD distributor. If that is the area you are talking about?

Okay, what exact MSD distributor you was using , part number?

Ok, I have the 8546(3) with the “ tall” shaft must be fit a little better I think before that’s why order

I also had problems with getting the pro billet MSD to fit with my trick flow 240 heads and valve cover. I used hand held belt sander to smooth the spacer and valve cover. I’m having a problem with the distributor hitting my air grabber. Is there a shorter cap available for the pro billet?

Sorry for bringing back an old thread but I'm wondering what this the purpose of the long shaft distributor? Seems as though it was made for clearance and everyone is having clearance issues lol

I think there's been some confusion here....it's not a "long shaft distributor". The 8546 is made for the 413-426-440 RB engines (taller deck) and the 8386 mentioned above is for the 383-400 low-deck B engines (shorter). There is no "long shaft" unit made (that I know of) for extra clearance for either engine.
The clearance issues are due to the diameter of the MSD and the extra material in that spot on Trick Flow heads and some valve covers.

Actually, MSD distributors are all "long shaft" compared to stockers or other brands - Holley for example. The stockers and others have shorter housings and the tops od the caps are about level with the top of the valve cover. The MSD is a couple inches longer at least.

I dont' think thats accurate. I have a stock style electronic distributor on my 383 and the top of the cap is below the top of the valvecover. On some of the billet msd distributors the neck is way longer. like 4-6" longer. you can clearly see it on their website

Yes I know the MSD's are taller.....but it's not "for clearance" that's just how they make them....that and the larger diameter is why they fit like **** with some heads/valve covers...stating that they make them taller for clearance might suggest they make two versions of distributor for RB engines which they don't or they stumbled upon some recipe for better fitment which they haven't, that's what I was getting at...sorry for not wording that better...I thought you were talking about the difference between the two models posted about above.
