Got the motor up on the engine stand today and started pulling her apart. I'm quite pleased.

Every single bolt came out with no issue, no broke off heads stuck parts ext.

Motor turned over beautifully, and the cylinders all look good with nice crosshatch finish.

Timing chain was a little loose, but other than that, motor appears to be in excellent condition.

The plan is to refresh and warm up a bit with a Summit 6401 Cam and some 440 Source Stealth heads, Aluminum dual plane intake, schumacher headers, and aluminum water pump housing to put her on a diet and get her closer to the weight of my small block 360 that's currently in my 71 Duster.

You ended up with a good one. I was hoping to do just a basic overhaul on the 74 unit I bought. Nope! Had to go all the way. At least it'll be good for 100+k miles when I get it done. Planning on the Source heads too.

Its like that sometimes. I Had bought a 360 magnum that i thought was a good clean motor and when i tore it down the cylinder walls for fragged, half the bolts broke off in the heads/block. and i was like, i am not paying for 1000+ $ worth of machine work for a damn 360 Lol. I bought the 440 expecting that even if the bores were shot and it needed rebuilt at least i was rebuilding a desirable 60s 440 that was in my opinion, juice worth the squeeze.
