My new stock stroke 400 build

I stopped by the machine shop and the heads are back together. Baby steps.

The intake manifold arrived today, thanks to Don Frelier. A little clean up and it will be good to go.

I got the manifold cleaned up today and I figured I might as well port match it while I was at it. Then I gave it a coat of stealth paint.

I would suggest that you use the valley pan with the crossover blocked off.

Thanks Don. I have that blocked gasket already prepped and painted at the machine shop.

I dropped off the last of the parts today. The block has been honed and they were checking the bearing clearances. Hopefully it starts assembly soon.

how did they clean and flush the block with the freeze plugs still in.

Nothing new with the engine. I picked up the transmission core today. I unloaded it into the garage, and then sent my buddy a message to see if he would rebuild it for me. He said bring it over tomorrow night or Friday, so back in the car it went. When did they start making them from lead?

I had to go in for a procedure this morning, so I had some downtime. I found the dyno results from the first stock stroke 400 I built. I can't believe it was 2005, almost 19 years ago to the day. We'll see how close this build comes to that one. I have stepped down on the cam from 222/234 to 214/224, but most of the rest of the specs are similar. That one had a nice flat torque curve. That was my buddy Tom at the controls.

I decided to rebuild my 625 AFB, so that I could compare it to the 625 Street Demon on the dyno. Word of advice, I bought an Amazon rebuild kit. The new seats would not screw into the carb body, the thread seemed different, the needles were okay. The floats were pretty thin material so I didn't use them, and several of the gaskets had to be trimmed a bit.

Yeah, Dave; I noticed they were getting about 20 lbs. heavier each year, a while back, and started turning people away. Ironically, I am on my third one this spring. The one I am rebuilding now, I got in a parts swap, and is a good one. It is a 1970 from behind a 383 HP, and has a lot of good stuff inside, plus Hi-stall torque converter. I figure this will likely be the last one I do.

Maybe they can start recording at a lower rpm instead of 3400 rpm.

Just my opinion.

Yes, with the smaller cam and carb, I am hoping they can start at around 2500 RPM.
