Hello, I just joined this site and thought I should introduce myself. My name is Dakota and I just recently purchased a '71 Satellite. I'm having an issue with the starter. I replaced the broken ignition switch with a new one and the car starts with the key now. However when I hooked up the battery I notice that the starter bendix gear engages the flex plate and causes the battery to go dead. Any ideas on what the problem may be is appreciated.

Someone also added a painless wiring solenoid on the wheel well that I would like to remove. Not sure why this was added, so any info on that is appreciated.

Sounds to me you have a constant hot on your relay get rid of the aftermarket crap and install org mopar part then let us know .

Welcome. Always had a soft-spot for fuselage-body satellites. Best of luck on the starter. I agree with above. Remove aftermarket stuff and replace with original. Will be easier to diagnose then even if it's still not working correctly.

Welcome to FBBO from NorCal

Welcome from Canada, If you had a normal starter relay I'd say that was the problem, so I'm thinking It's that other thing you got in it's place or the wiring of it
