Noticed some oil on the ground and found my Dipstick holder not connected to oil pan. How do I fix this?

I went to check my oil level because I noticed a little more oil under the car than usual. Found that the dipstick and dipstick holder (not sure what it’s cslled) are not even connected to the engine block. Just hanging there. No idea when this happened. Drove it yesterday just fine.

I was able to put it back together. It is clearly loose. Luckily the oil pan is still full of oil. Any idea how to properly remedy this? Is the holder likely snapper in two pieces? One stuck in the engine hole and then the other pieces is now just in my hands?

What car and what engine?

Sorry. Just was so flustered by this that I forgot to include any pertinent info. It’s always something I guess. It’s a 440. I think out of a 75 motorhome and currently in a 72 satellite.

Dip stick tube should be a slide into the block piece and have a tab that attaches to a motor mount bolt to hold it in place. This is a one piece part, not two.

Got it thank you. I was thinking maybe the once piece tube broke in half and half is in the oil pan and the rest fell out. Looks like I have the entire tube and maybe the pieces that attaches to the bolt broke off? This is an aftermarket tube too I think because it’s chrome. Who knows. I’m glad that I likely don’t need to drop the pan. Maybe I can find a factory tube that fits more securely.

Should be a tight fit into the block. Try Mega Parts for a replacement.
Thank you! Should there be any type of gasket or seal for it when it goes into the block? I’m not seeing anything there but maybe it fell off and that’s why it isn’t snug.

Does it slide into block? Or is it broke off at the block? The tube is more like a press fit into the block and there is a ridge that keeps it from going to far into the block. . If the tube isn't broken you can expand it a little with maybe a small screwdriver, for a tighter fit.

Should fit snug into the block. I used to use an open end wrench at the ridge to tap the tube into the block. Seems like a 1/2" wrench fit. Put the open end over the tube at the ridge, tap the wrench as close to the tube with a small hammer
