Success! I also discovered something else that may help others.

It went back together,put the header back in place,hooked up the exhaust,went to fire it up and...

Nothing. No start. Hmmm...dropped the pan again to check levers and ****. I'm looking up and see that the neutral switch is not making contact with the lever. I had replaced the o-ring under the washer on the switch and it moved the switch outboard of the lever. Took the switch out,pulled the o-ring(kept the cupped washer) and re-installed it. Still not making contact. Pulled it again,removed the washer,put it back in and Voila! Contact made-in both park and neutral. Tightened it down,tried again to be sure,and filled it. No leaks,it starts and hopefully I can leave this problem theater and fix something else.
