I have an older set of “new in box” Sealed Power piston rings for my 440. (.060” over)
Part # SP E-424K 60
I’ve read the included instructions, but can’t tell which compression ring should go in the upper position on the piston.
All rings are clearly marked “top” so no confusion there.
One set of 8 compression rings has no bevel.
The other set of 8 has a bevel on the bottom inside edge.
Which set goes in the uppermost groove on the piston?

I think I have the answer, but want to be sure and not give bogus information... Can you tell if both ring lands are square?? Can you slip a ring in each groove (land) and it goes in all the way?, and then try again, with the rings upside down. Swap top and bottom lands and try again. If they wont go one way, then your gonna know that one ring land needs the beveled ring there. I don't mean install the ring, just hold it up to the piston and check the depth of the ringland, compared to the depth of the ring itself. The ring depth must completely disappear into the ringland. Let us know what you find.

It will be important were they go. Do not forget they need gap checking.
Both rings lands will be cut square the bevel is to allow the ring to twist.
Looking at the rings side section view is one a barrel or rounded shape and one slightly tapered? Viewed at the ring gap.

I spoke with Federal-Mogul tech support.
The ring with the bevel on the bottom inside edge is the second ring.
All gaps checked and within spec.
Thank you for your answers guys!!

Yes, one is slightly rounded. I've learned that's the top ring.

Sounds like you are all set to go. Good luck with the rebuild.
