Anyone have a tip on how to remove this buggar without destroying it? I feel four tabs but don’t know if this was swaged in from behind or press fitted from outside/top.

Use needle nose pliers, tweak the prongs, and pry/pull it out. A prong might break off, or not, but this is pretty much the only way.
Thanks 69B, I tried that through the door from the inside. Is that what you mean? If so I will try again. I assume it was pushed in from the top/outside right?
I have a real thin little screwdriver and got under the edge and popped both mine off with no damage to them. Just did them the other day actually!
Yes, from the inside to remove, and yes, they just push in from the top. Didn't say it was easy to get to ...

One tab broke. Must be a pita to reinstall with four tabs.
It can be fun. I think one of mine had 4, but the other had 2 or 3. The latter one fit a little loose, lol...

Luckily mine were rusted out and need new so I wasn't concerned on wrecking them. Like many things going in should be easier
My guess is I’ll need two as the first one I took off broke very easily. Strange as its spring steel and I wouldn’t think that it gets brittle over time but I guess they do.
