Pulled the Trigger

Wow two great cars and you made a good choice. I love both cars and really love that GTX.

Take it from me life is to short and drive the heck out of that GTX.

I know the next Mopar I buy will be driven and I'm thinking daily (not snow or rainy days).

Congrats now make some youtube videos and show us all what we are missing besides the smile on your face, the Hemi under the hood, 67 GTX, the feel of a real car not a plastic one that is driven daily.......Ok the list goes on and on.

Thank you for the nice words. I am going on vacation tomorrow and will have ten days to think about it. It really is a trailer-show queen, so I am not sure what I will end up doing. My wife and I also have a 67 BB Corvette convertible, It is a high level driver and since I don't drive anymore, she loves driving it. We take tjat for ice cream and cruise nights.

I learn something new everyday.Just got back ftom my vacation and had a PM telling me that for such a perfect car, the air cleaner decal is wrong. The sender said it should be 426/Hemi omly and mine was a 1968 and later decal. I researched it and foumd mine is correct. My build date is 6/28/67. The decal was changed by Mopar in May 1967.

Same color scheme with the exterior and interior as mine only yours is 1000 times nicer and a real Hemicar!

Just curious about one thing in the ad though:

"Not far into the engine’s disassembly, Larry gave us a call and told us not only was our Hemi a clean one, it was a factory Super Stock piece! Now, the fender tag shows this car was scheduled for build on June 28, 1967, making it most likely the very last ‘67 Hemi X built. Did Chrysler simply run out of ‘regular’ Hemis and substitute the competition mill?"

It is my understanding that the '67 RO and WOs got regular Street Hemis put into them by Chrysler, so the above quote seems kind of weird to me.

Edit to say that I found this info on another site:

"The engines were basically 10.25:1 compression Street Hemis with a few small changes leaving further modifications to the racers. Other engine changes included opening up the intake inline dual quad plenums using the "Vanke" modification, the solid 4 blade fans were exchanged in favor of a clutch style 5 blade unit, and a complete transistorized "Prestolite" ignition system with brick red solid core spark plug wires was incorporated."

So maybe the "Vanke" modification is what he found?

Sorry, I'm kind of a geek about anything '67 Belvedere-related. Anyway, cool car! Congrats!

I have spoken with Larry Shepard several times. He confirmed it is the original engine and it was a Super Stock block which as you said are the same as the street Hemi. If Larry Shepard tells me, than I think you can take it to the bank. He has building and restoring Hemis for 35 years, and has seen many weird things Mopar did. I have a letter into Chrysler Historical Services to verify, but it does look like it may have been the last of the 720 1967 Hemi GTX's built. I will post as soon as I can confirm that.

Yeah, not doubting anything about the car, just trying to learn some new things I hadn't heard of before. Very cool.

Stunning car! Any explanation why it has a 1968-69 426 Hemi Head decal on the air cleaner top?

Now that's neato findin out them kinda details. I think it's awesome as all hell you're blessed enough to be able to get them level cars......stupid as it sounds, bein on this forum with you kinda makes me feel like a little bity part of it. Little bitty. lol

Boy oh boy, I`m glad I didn`t say it had the wrong decal, I was just wondering why it had the later style. I used the earlier style decal on mine but like the later style decal better. Now that I`ve also learned something new, I`m changing the early style I put on to the later style. The build date doesn`t matter to me as my car originally had a 440 anyways. As stated before, your GTX is stunning! I know I`m going to drive mine as much as possible.

I have been told it is wrong. It is correct. The car was built June 28, 1967 and Mopar changed the air cleaner decal in May 1967. I have confirmed this.

Hey guys you are embarassing me. I really appreciate the great comments for an awesome car. Everyone's opinion is just as important as another. This car was my last hurrah. I am really getting to old for this with medical issues, but I can't let go quite yet. I drove these cars when they were new and this car reminds me how long ago that was, so I found the best and had to have it. It is going to get driven even if it was restored to be a trailer queen.

I am not so sure now about the change in decal. I can;t find anything that confirms that, and no one I spoke to knows for sure. I found a 1967 Hemi GTX convertible on Cars On Line, and it says it is a July 1967 car and is the last Hemi built. It also has the small decal on the air cleaner.:confused3:

Hey, it won a first at a big show, looks gorgeous, goes like hell. If a decal controversy is the biggest problem anyone can come up with, you have my heartfelt sympathy.:icon_thumright: Peel it off, slap a Ed Roth Rat Fink on there, and get a period correct aside at the next hood opening ceremony. I have an original I'll loan ya......

Of course you are dead on. We pilots are just absolute perfectionists. I kid you not, I know guys that make a hard landing in less than perfect conditions and they are still ruminating about it a month later.

Amike95, do you have anymore pics of your car you could share from in 'real life' settings?

I have a pic of your car (or one just like it!) that has made me seriously consider that ralley green colour, but I'm not convinced I'd love it in the 'real world' as much as I do in the beautifully shot pictures. Any help would be great!

Malicious, sorry I was so long getting back. Here are a couple.

Thanks aMike95! I was interested to see what it looked like in 'real life' situations to see if it looked as good because I was trying to pick a colour for my Coronet. Ended up going black instead.

Beautiful car BTW! Love it.
