This was going to be a post about my recently acquired tire changer and balancer continuing to pay for themselves.

    However.....

The old Cooper I just took off had .5 oz weight on the inside and .75 on the out side.

The new one I replaced it with took 2.75 on the inside and a whopping 4 oz on the outside!

    On the same rim.

I didn't even have a 4 oz weight. I had to put 2 2 oz weights next to each other.

    That's excessive.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

There was no dot to indicate a heavy/light spot either.

...and to add insult to injury.

    THEY CHANGED THE RWL FONT!

    Really?

    WTF?

Didn't have that issue, but was washing the RR today and disappointed to see Made in Mexico on the sidewall of my new Cobra GT's.
I was assured that all Cooper's were USA, not so.

I have Cooper Cobras on my daily beater Ford Ranger. 225/70R14s. I am needing new tires in the next couple of weeks or so. Was planning to replace with the same. I'm not concerned with the muscle car look on the little truck. Any recommendations for a different tire in that 14" size?

      We call those tires “Bloopers”.

Why not dismount and clock the tire until the balance factor improves ?

In the last year I have bought 2 sets 4 tires each set. The older set required what I thought was excessive weight and all 4 were clocked several times with no improvement. The newer set required very little weight, in fact one only took 1/2 oz. on the inside. The other 3 in that set took 1.5 oz. or less. I haven't taken notice to where each were made. I may have to look.

Labor in Mexico is cheaper, but the machinery to build tires is pretty much the same used in the USA, the factory owners are from the USA, the fact that say build in Mexico doesn't mean worst quality or poor construction, due nafta or the new agreement, quality values must be fulfilled before any item, specially automotive parts are sold in the USA.

Glad I got mine last year. I don't care for that newer font, either.

I just put a set on my Lil Red Express last month. My guy said they had to clock the tires like @Kern Dog suggests to get the weight down a bit. We did static inside center only with tape weights. Looks like one of the 275/60’s took about 2oz. Rest were less.

I've had some good years that required 9oz on one side and about 5 oz in another! We re clocked many times finally after we spoke to manufacture they said it's within spec and it was fine . I told my boss to not order anymore and the guy buying was being a dick so he got what he payed for

I had considered marking the spot with black sharpie and trying that spot either next to or opposite of the valve stem.

I don't expect much change from 4 oz, though. In fact if it goes down to 3.75, that will actually be more difficult to mount weights for.

Korean tires really suck, as in Kumho, also known as: Kum Hole.

Same issues here took a lot of weights, look online many posts about it. Only two white letter choices bf and cooper. Unless you go with specialty tires.
