Rant on reproduction parts

Perfect example Repop versus OEM

Repop lense on the right thats maybe 15 yrs old or so on the right
Compared to an original on the left that's probably 3 times its age

Howdy yes new stuff is a crapshoot
I bought rear window trim for my 70 Charger the first set wasn't polished, the second set the two long pieces were made wrong. My glass guy spent an hour trying to make the parts fit, when I compared them to the banged up original I was pissed. I almost smashed them, sense took over and I sent them back with a note taped to them warning that they won't fit a Charger.

And there you have it. I saw this in play every time I sold a GTX. I felt like a bit of a chump when I sold most of my cars. I paid a premium over market for all of them, because of history and originality. The market at large didn't share my priorities. Financially, I still came out well playing the originality card. Of the seven cars, none of them had significant issues while I owned them. The third one was the most original. I paid 10% over book price for it in 1991. I owned it for seven years. Only maintenance items were a battery, starter, some belts, and oil changes. Still sold it for $1000 less than I paid for it.
I believe we think alike. If I am going to have something in my garage I want to be able to tell a story and feel proud that it survived all these years and if it has all the factory docs then all the better.

I posted a thread on here a few years ago, "The One I Loved Back Then is Available." I was debating selling my restored Hemi car, and replacing it with a 440 GTX I had driven a lifetime ago, when it was a new car. Sparked an interesting debate, fairly partisan. I ended up yielding to the pull of my historical connection, and sold the Hemi. I made the right choice, for me.

Problem with the Chineseium junk is, well, it’s junk. So just having it for the sake of getting a sugar high by clicking buy isn’t worth it. It won’t solve your issue. Or not for long anyway.

Have both sides to this. Our 69 Charger RT is an all orig bought new in Dec68 at Crenshaw Dodge in LA. Long time friends with orig owner, we worked together. I helped arrange sale to #2 owner in 2009, then bought it for my daughter in 2015. Perhaps one of the most documented 2nd gen Chargers in existence, have all the purchase paperwork, service records, a mileage log, and some rare factory paperwork found in the car the orig owner saved. Bought the 70RR vert, as a driver, for 4K in 1995. Had been painted 3 times, not orig engine/trans, but a real 27 RR. Decided to restore it as I would have ordered one in the day - had I been smart enough then to order one

The RR is full of NOS parts I was still able to find in the late 90s mostly using partsvoice and ebay, incl a full left quarter panel. Concur with OP, repro parts these days are a crap (pardon the pun) shoot.

I am thankful there are reproduction parts available for our cars. However the quality received for the price paid is way off base. And several parts are out of spec junk. If it is a junk part, sell it for a junk price. Repop turn signal switch comes to mind.
