So the front and rear drums in my 727 appear to need the band surface reconditioned or turned on a lathe. They're a little wavy with some small areas of rust, so I think they need trued up. I found a guy that will do them for 60 bucks each. What sort of finish ( or smoothness) were the drums when new? All I have ever seen are drums that have thousands of miles of the band rubbing on them, so they are pretty smooth and shiny, but I don't know what finish we should shoot for when turning.
Thanky

AND, this sounds like a @dvw question. I’ve used 100grit sandpaper before; really need pics.

I've spun them and sanded with 100 grit. Stock drums are pretty cheap. I could sell you a nice forward drum for $50. The rear drum isn't nearly as critical. Lets see them.

After you re-finish the drums have them Magnafluxed! If they have heat cracks they may explode. You can probably find
good drums for cheap? The parts are not that expensive.
