It's a long story but I got in a hurry sticking a set of headers on a car that had to move, had to grind a boss on the side of the 400 block to fit a set of Schumacher headers, and like a moron ground a place where I didn't intend to.

Does anyone know if the casting detail under the gray JB weld in the photo is more than just a strengthening rib? In other words, if I reuse this block for another build am I taking a chance that it will leak there?

Thanks,

We can make up scenarios, or you can take out the freeze plug and run a wire up there and feel if the inside is flat there.

I say it is flat inside and that rib is just added to the outside. But that means nothing really.

You must love those headers. Easier to dent a tube but its done now. I think youre likely okay though, it isnt ground to the levell of the flat surface of the block, just the rib itself.

I sure do, in an a-body. Put the car on stands, turn the wheel a certain way, and the driver side slides right up and in with power steering. The passenger side went in from the top with the car on the ground. They were a huge time saver. I just wish I would've paid better attention and kept the disc on the boss and off the block.
