Rick@Laysons "Out of Commission" for a bit....

FYI......

Going to be out of commission for awhile....

I'm having "back issues" and pretty much useless right now.

I haven't been able to work for the past two weeks, and I don't know when I'm going to be able to get back at it full speed.

Thanks,
Rick

Getting any better Rick?

Feel better soon, Rick. It's amazing how painful and debilitating a back ailment can be.

Like everyone else who has posted, I'm wishing you a speedy and full recovery. Back troubles are the worst, right up there with an eye injury. Sucks.

Personally I have had two different back surgeries. My first was a spinal fusion in my neck at levels C5 through C7 back in January 2022. I have a titanium plate in my neck now. I woke up from surgery and felt what it was like to no longer hurt in this area, and how the pain had been radiating down to my arms and fingers. I followed the doctors advice to the letter..... and six months later I was good to go.

But this neck surgery revealed that I was having problems in other areas of my spine as well. These problems were located in the Thoracic (mid back) and lumbar (lower back) regions.

So I had another surgery on my middle back six months after my neck surgery. This time I had what they call a disc laminectomy / resection where they cut off the bulging portions of my discs that were pressing firmly against my spinal chord. The affected levels were T8 though T-11.

Initially I felt OK. I was listening to what the doctor told me...... Then I made a huge mistake and did something REALLY stupid. I was on a 5 pound weight restriction with no twisting or bending over allowed at this time.

My wife and I were visiting my mom, who had dementia and was on a very bad roll on that horrible day. I ended up hurting myself pretty bad trying to help her, only two weeks after my last spinal surgery.

Bottom line to this story is this: Please follow your doctors advice. It can make a huge difference in the outcome of how things go for your recovery.

Please learn from my mistakes. I still have very bad back pain in my middle and lower back, and it's been going on for over 6 years. Some days are better than others, but I am always in constant pain, and I have been since my late teens when I was in the Army. I need to have more surgeries, but I can't afford it right now. So I'll tough it out until that time comes. Every single level of my spine has something wrong with it, and is likely caused by previous injuries, and years of hard physical manual labor.. I didn't get this way by sitting on my arse.... I earned it the hard way, and now I'm paying the Piper as they say.

Take care, take your time, and above all get well.
