Sad story

Howdy from your inbred distant cousin up here in Hawkins.
I'm VERY glad everyone is OK! Yes, deer are so numerous in this part of the country they
are pretty much a nuisance animal, even with all the hunting that goes on.
We got caught after dark last Saturday evening in the GTX, running around on errands.
I drove at MAX ATTENTION the few miles back to the house - ol' Fred is still sporting some
original type headlights, which ain't much more than strong candles. :)
Which is why I went to halogens and rewired the lamps on my 65 Coronet; I want to see the deer before I hit them.

Thanks Ed. I should have known better but it was nice and I wanted to drive it on the interstate a few miles. My son's in Kingsport so drove over on I26, came back on old Kingsport Hiway. Big mistake. Just got in to Boones Creek and...
If I ever find parts to the car back together it will never need headlights again if I can help it.

Jonesborough

That’s where my wife grew up and I have a couple of switchyards I work in there as well.
I’ll keep my eye out for your parts. Do you know a fellow by the name of John that lives
on the 81 end of Cherokee rd. in Garbers?

That is sad!! It will get fixed, but, it's still sad!

I'm just asking, Doesn't Haggerty source parts? What have they come up with?

so sorry to see & hear that

best of luck finding needed parts too

you faired/came out way better than the deer did :poke:

I've had so many close ones when it comes to deers
deer whistles "sort of help"
you can get lil' chrome ones too

they hear ya' coming, or see your lights
& lock up in the middle of the road

Deer did you hear that car -lets go run across the road-.jpg

almost everyone I know that's into cars or trucks up here
has had that unfortunate thing happen too
mostly in their trucks or jeeps
my neighbor across the street took out the whole front end of his
47 Ford Pro-street show car he drove it a lot

MY next door neighbor is a Calif. Fish & game warden
he's hit 2 in the last 12 or so years, with 'his State truck' even
all up & down Pheonix lake rd. (here) has several roadkills a week
100's a year

I'd far rather deal with the critters out here in the sticks
trying to avoid them
then the crazy's bipedal types in the inner-shitty's

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, but I'm sure you'll get it put back to normal. Never had a claim with Hagerty, but I've heard good things about them.

Driving at night is a bit more risky, but daytime is not risk free. Two years ago I damn near got my 3rd deer, this time with my Road Runner. it was probably 0900, clear and sunny, when a big doe strolled out of the woods right into my path. The only thing that saved my car was when she heard the screeching tires, she picked it up to a trot and I barely missed her.

As for deer whistles, i had them on a daily driver many years ago. While driving (on the same road) at night, I spotted several eye glowing at me in the corn field to my left, just out of headlight range. They had obviously just crossed the road. I'm quite sure they heard the whistles, and stopped to see what it was, but can't help but wonder what would have happened if they had heard them when in the middle of the road. I suspect they would have stopped and tried to read my license plate.
Deer hunters know what I'm talking about.

Yep the deer in the headlight look:lol:

I can only speak of my experience with a claim with Hagerty, but they do offer to provide
a list of "preferred repair facilities" if you like - those are supposedly compiled from the
results of other customers' recommendations.
Since my own friend didn't want to work on Fred (he owns the best body shop in these parts),
I decided to go with who Hagerty recommended.
Glad I did, too - some of y'all may remember the thread where I showed Fred off after his time
at that shop. Things went well as could be expected, I suppose.

Thanks Ed. I don't think the repair is the big issue here, the parts availability is. I was freaked out about not finding the trim. I have a lot of it now that came with the donor car and the worst case is I have to ship it to a chrome shop to be refinished. I have been rebuilding a 63 Chevy C10 pickup and learning body metal repair. I am confident I can get the replacement fender in shape. I have done the paint on the fiberglass hood I put on it so I may get it all done myself. I just found the invoice from the paint shop with the paint code and the match on the hood was great. I may come out well on this...
Thanks. Bernie

I have gotten the parts off to begin repair. The dogleg on the donor fender is rusty but the original is not damaged in that area so next step, cut and splice...

Oh yeah, the donor car....picked this up Wednesday for $1500. Came with 2 left front fenders both include the trim.
