I remember reading Chuck Yeager's biography. When he was out fighting with his P-51 Mustang he would scan the sky in sections. I do this when I'm speeding. Front left, center, front right repeat the process behind me. No cops go unnoticed with this trick. I usually use this on 3 and 4 lane highways going the same direction.

Slow down when cresting a hill.
You can beat cruise control for gas mileage if you plan and coast.
Passed an 18 wheeler full of crunched cars. Bumper sticker said "Don't text and drive".

I live on a two lane state road out in the country somewhat. When driving I don't like to be tailgated, but also if the gap behind gets to big, they seem to forget your up there when we get into the hills and valleys on the way home.

So, what I started doing back it the mid 80's was to slow down a bit and shorten that gap about a mile before I get home to let people know that I'm there. Then let off the gas about a 1/4 mile with an early blinker to start gathering them especially if I'm pulling my enclosed.

I say this for example, because three times I've avoided being hit in the rear while setting there (waiting for traffic to clear so I can cross the other lane) by gassing it because the guy behind wasn't paying attention.

But this slowing/gathering trick hasn't always worked. Once in the late 80's I had the guy behind me's attention, but found out the hard way, ...not the guy behind him. I was about a car length up the drive when WHAM, back end of my 66 Town Wagon got hit in the right rear. He woke up, saw the guy in front of him, dodged and hit me. After that "I" paid more attention further back in the pack.

I don't have a good finished pic of it back when.
