So I told the wife I was buying a generator

That's freaking sweet. I'll give you $5 cash money for it right now.

Okay, but I think the UPS charge is going be a little salty.

That thing is fantastic. What are your plans for it??

Originally I was going to pull the motor for my 1933 coupe and scrap the rest.

Then I thought I might restore it and use it as a ....wait for it....generator.

That was until I saw the estimated fuel consumption decal - 4 gallons per hour :tongue9:

'33 here we come.

Very nice. Before you take it apart, realize that the fuel consumption is at full load. You will never use it at full load and hence never consume 4 gallons per hour. Also make sure it is correct rotation.

You've got the coolest generator on the block, and the country. LOL

Nice. If you do use it for a generator though, better check with your local zoning official on the rules. After Hurricane Sandy, everyone in my area went on a generator binge and all the local municipalities adopted new generator regulations. Before that, it was pretty relaxed. Now, it is a total PITA (I'm a Generac dealer so been through the grinder with the zoning mafias in the area). The Hemis would probably violate the noise limit around here.

SWEET FIND !! A lot of industrial hemis used around my area for irrigation pump motors! got tabs on 2 of them just waiting on the farmers to replace them with new diesel ones !!

4 gallons per hour with how much load? Bet it would be much better with a very light load like running your house.

Katolight has been home based in Mankato MN for years until they sold to another company and changed their name to Onsite Energy....which is now owned by the German corporation MTU I believe.

Either way, unless you plan on lighting up your whole house, using it as a generator will be extremely inefficient compared to a properly sized generator, no matter the load.

Great find though, hopefully you got it for a great price.

My home is all electric and has a 200 amp service. Now I don't pretend to know much about electricity but how would that unit figure into running my home. I know I sure don't need 50kw tho.

Very cool piece, great find, good luck with the 33 that will now have an early Hemi... hell put wheels on it, make it drive off electric motors, it would be a true hybrid, wouldn't probably be all to efficient, but cool none the less...

You're right, this is a 175A at 285V (by these numbers, anyway). Probably 240V output I guess, so that would operate several houses with the A/C's running, all the lights on, beer fridge at full tilt, hot tub maxed out, and a turkey in the electric oven.

In other words, the whole town is out of power, but your block is having a HEMI powered block party blowout.

Cool find, 5wndwcpe!

The Hemi powered air raid sirens are cool too. Much less useful though.

This one is in Don Garlits' museum.
