Sooo i guess a automatic is in order

Having the original weak 3 on the tree. Exhausting my efforts on finding a way to use any sort of 3 speed floor shifter and pricing out everything needed for a 4 speed. It looks like the most obvious and economical route is an 904 at least. Anyone done this. Does it truly hurt resale value. Is there another way?? 66 Dodge charger. 318.
Have you considered an OD 4-speed setup? You're over halfway there now.

not mine:

I am curious? is there something wrong with the current setup? And for me if i was buying a charger that had column manual i would want it to still be there.. but 90% of people wouldn't agree
The current set up is just overall lazy. Boring. Not enjoyable to drive.

And you think a automatic is less lazy/boring? As far as boring sorry three on the tree is rare & unusual not the least bit boring... Far less boring than a automatic...

Would it be my preferred choice? No... I'd put a 4 speed in it, you already have the pedals, bellhousing, clutch & flywheel... Just need the trans, shifter & maybe a driveshaft... As Mr Porter mentioned not sure on whether the 3 speed has the floor bubble or if it would need to be added... As RussT Plymouths mentioned an O/D trans would be an option & typically can be found fairly reasonably....
