stainless marker light delete panel

Never been stopped for not having side marker lights. In the early years, inspection stations would fail the car if they didn't work but later in years, they quit even looking at them. Today's cars have wrap around tail lights and most inspection stations don't care about the old cars and most don't even know about side maker lights and think they are just reflectors that someone stuck on. Even my 95 Dakota passes without the high mount brake light that's supposed to be on my tailgate which got replaced with an older tailgate that doesn't have one. I guess some states are sticklers for stuff like that and Texas kinda used to be that way. Now, they don't even check to see if the head lights aim right. If they light up, they're good.

That's interesting, I've never seen a tailgate mounted light on a Dakota (or any other truck). I always assumed that since the tailgate might not always be up, or even attached to the truck, they wouldn't put a light there. Have you a picture of the original?

Guys,

I do not have a clue about these inspections you speak of. Here in Kentucky We have no inspections. Pay the taxes and registration and you are good to roll.

Like I said I know they are there for safety and I do plan to punch them to accept a marker I can live with. Do I really Need school bus size and style lights on it. If you use your imagination you could take this Idea and modify it into what fits your needs.

I have a 99 Jeep wrangler with a reese hitch. We all know jeeps have no storage space so I made a frame for my reese hitch which I bolted a 55 gallon steel drum to that has a removable lid. It slides in my hitch and is legal and I can store my camping stuff in it without losing passenger room. Not much different than the tray style but I can close it. Cops are always asking what it is and I just smile and say My meth lab.

The only time there is an inspection involved in KY is when you are applying for a title, either because yours is from out of state or because you don't have one. If you are trying to get a rebuilt title than the inspection is very intense with them checking the functionality of any and all safety features/ lights, etc. They even check for fluid leaks. For out of state title apps they basically just check to make sure the vin tag matches and the odometer. But like another member said before, if the wrong cop pulls you over, especially a D.O.T youre in for it.

Not sure what years had them but 95 did. The light goes just above the tail gate release handle and is a bit longer and looks similar to the high mount light that the full size trucks got on the cab. My old tail gate got crunched so it ended up going across the scale on one of my scrap runs and didn't get a pic of it. Never thought anyone would be interested lol but this parts house calls for them on 95-96 http://www.autopartsnetwork.com/dod...=google_base&gclid=CK3wpbzC4bkCFRDl7AoduU0AEQ
