Stand removal on heads

Has anyone ever milled the rocker shaft off the heads. Then use different stands like a Ford. To center rocker arm to valve stem. I heard this that racers do this often. Thanks for any input
 
The pre-64 heads used a bolt-down stand, so that now the stands can be custom made to relocate the shafts higher, or closer or farther away from the valve. I have definitely heard of newer race heads set up the same way (w heads for small blocks?). I machined some new 6061 stands for my 63 max heads, bigger stronger and better material than the stockers. Wish I knew what I did with them.
I just don't know how much room for threads in the new aluminum heads, once the stands are gone. I suppose it would depend on which head.
 
Thank you for your input. I just wonder if this is better than putting shims to get the rocker arm correct. I have to wonder about the oiling and would it reduce lifter problem or cam wear or am I over thinking this.
 
Cost wise, the B3R shim relocation kit would be cheaper and as good as a stand mill and relocation. I cannot think of any downsides to the shims. I used the kit on my Stealth heads with Hughes rockers and got a nice, thin swipe. I think the kit is about $200. They oil fine.
 
T&D paired rockers require stand removal. Then We moved mine towards the valve as well. Takes accurate machining. Works very well. But I wouldn't do it for a Mild application. In fact with a mild cam I'd run it as is. I've built more than a few Eddy headed engines. None have failed. All ran pretty well with stock geometry though it wasn't perfect. Biggest cam Ive used was a .590"
