I have a 1969 Charger R/T with power steering, and I need to rebuild the steering column. How do I take down to the smallest piece without breaking it? I got the retainer off the bottom, the O-ring out and the two locking clips, the actual shaft inside the column is free but I can really seem to get past this point. Any help would me much appreciated, Thank you.

Is it floor shift or column shift ? any way , Remove screw in turn signal plate this will remove the lever, Remove three screws over upper bearing, this frees turn signal switch, there a small plate that covers upper bearing remove it too, remove hidden snap ring, remove ( or loosen the two nuts under the turn signal switch, these can be an MAJOR PAIN in the *** during reassembley, be patience, work upper part of column off, upper bearing should be in it,and it sits in a rubber race, remove bolts from lower bearing, take you time, don't force anything, NEVER HIT THE SHAFT WITH A HAMMER OR USE FORCE ! , these shafts are collapsible, there are small white plastic rivets through it, it you hit it and break these, the shaft is shot and unsafe, PM me with any ?s

Good , I have rebuilt a butt load of these things , floor shifts are easier, less parts, you will have more problems during re-assembly than you do during the tear down , PM me with any ?s or problems that you may encounter. I'll gladly help.
