Suggestions wanted for QUIET good flowing mufflers (sleeper build)?

Back in the day the Imperial mufflers were the sleepers choice.

Yep,I remember using the Imp Mufflers as performance mufflers.

Accurate Exhaust standard or high flow Hemi mufflers are another possibility. They are available in 2-1/4 or 2-1/2”. Probably not the cheapest choice but another option.

Insulate the interior, first. Use a kater of FatMat, DynoMat, or similar and a layer of aluminum backed fabric heat insulation like this one at Speedway.

I use the above with a 3" TTI header back exhaust system with Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers. They are a bit quieter than the Ultra Flo which were too loud for my 440.

I think free-flowing and quiet exhaust are incompatible. You will have to compromise.

Alum foil used on insulation in the interior of a vehicle serves hardly ANY positive purpose other than for marketing cosmetics. Aluminum/reflective foil's best feature is it's looks, and reflecting heat back. When alum foil is in contact with a surface it also transmits/conducts the heat from the backing material to the alum foil and then radiates it rather well, the opposite of what is desired in many cases. The grey area in this discussion is emissivity regarding color of the surface vs conductivity of the surface material. It does look nice, it also does not absorb water and is a surface impervious surface to attract dirt/grime. It is also a poor acoustic attenuator. Now if one is trying to heat/maintain in the interior temp of a vehicle, the reflective nature of foil is an attribute. Not sure I ever remember anyone here saying they drive their cars in cold weather and they are lacking a toasty feeling. However, the backing of the foil is often very useful in a number of ways.

I guess it's a sign of the times for us codgers? I'm also building a mild 440 car that will be quiet for use on longer interstate cruises. Lots of sound deadening, 727 automatic and 2.76 gears. Thanks for the question and input. It gives me something to ponder.

Also, thinking of putting in a mini fridge in the console for my Ensure. What's your guy's favorite flavor?

OP is building a sleeper. I doubt he cares about sound level INSIDE, he wants it quiet to the spectators/opponents OUTSIDE.
At least, that's the way I think of a sleeper.
(For what it's worth, best sleeper I ever saw was an XJ6 Jag sedan with stock wheels, tires, and a stock-looking set of 1 1/2" tailpipes. Only it had a twin turboed stroker LS in it, quiet mufflers that dumped under the car, and EASY high sixes eighths on skinny hard radials)
Edit: almost forgot. Guy who owns the Jag's son has a standard cab Toyota mini pickup..... with a twin turbo 540 bbc in it. If he ever gets it to hook.....?

Funny, a few months ago I listened to a video of a car with some glass packs on it and it brought memories rushing back from over 55 years ago as he goosed the throttle and rapped the pipes a little. Man I liked glass packs back then. They were the sound of the 50s and 60s. I remember back then listening to so many old Chevys, GTOs, Mopars and Fords slowly winding through the gears on the boulevard while the rumble and bark in each gear and each shift rose and fell. I’ve even thought about getting a set and put on my 66 Hemi just to re-live the sound from that era a little. I may still do that one of these days. My neighbors will hate me for it.

Only time I ever had a glass pack was on a Chevy 250 inline six. I was on a budget but the stock system sounded more like a diesel so I whipped up a side exit exhaust for it. I wasn't sure if I was making a mistake, but as soon as I started it up I knew I didn't, it sounded great on that little motor.
