Taking oil filter out with fan shroud

I pull the sway bar to k frame bolts on the drivers side, the bar has to move down about 1/4” to sneak the filter in and out. It wasn’t a problem until I installed a factory shroud.

On my gen2 hemi I fill the filter halfway to penetrate the filter media. The only 2 filters are the slant six and the B engine filter I can't fill up before installing and I no longer own the six.

My sway bar and trans cooler lines are blocking the path. The only way in or out that I’ve found is between the rad, power steering pump and battery

I have the same obstacles with mine. It goes in and out, but it's very tricky to get the correct angle. Sometimes I've run a shorter filter.

I've heard of some mopar owners install one of those filter 90-degree adapters. My dad used to run one of those adapters in his 67 Chevy for just this same reason. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I've never seen an old mopar in person run one and not sure if it would make a difference in clearance.

I pull mine out from the top. I have a fan shroud but not that pesky power steering pump. Tons of room up top to break it loose, let it drain in my trough, flip it up and pull it out.
Bingo, the one reason I love not having p/steering!

Just move the K member :poke:

To fill or or not to fill...

The question has debated all over the internet. The consensus seems to be that it's better to fill the filter prior to installation. I view that as goal, rather than a requirement. If I can get a filter full of oil on the car without spilling, then I'll do it but I'm not taking stuff apart or buying special tools to get it done. Of my 5 cars, only one of them has a vertical oil filter, so it's the only one that can even take a fully pre-filled filter. I figure something is better than nothing, so the others get a little splash.

Having done one or two ( gazillion) oil changes back in the day, on all sorts of different cars, there is not a one I can recall that the filter could not be changed by itself. Now... about a FILTRE..... does it actually spell that way on the box ?

If my modified trans cooler lines were contributing to a filter access problem I think I would do some more modifying

'68 GTX, 440, 4 speed, wide radiator, oil changes every 3000 miles since new.
NEVER had an issue changing the oil filter from under the car. Guide it up and over the lower radiator hose and it in or out.

If you're good with $600 for a shroud, just buy a remote filter kit for around $100. That's what I plan to do with my '68.

Find a convenient spot nearby that tucks the filter and hoses out of harm's way, but is still accessible. Check the adapter periodically for leaks and replace orings as needed...

I like the set up from this thread where the filter tucks under the opposite side of the block. Of course this is a coil-over kframe conversion, so may not be possible with stock:

But do you have a fan shroud? Power steering?
