The cold hard truth about electric vehicles in winter

Just a public announcement here
Did you see what the WOMAN Energy Secretary said Yesterday???
" It will be tough as we TRANSITION to green energy"... We are not going to restart drilling'.... And there you have it...

Unless I missed it, in over 5 pages I’m surprised no one mentioned the propensity for EVs to spontaneously self-combust in an intense and stubborn fire and in the process burn your garage down, burn your other vehicles up, maybe your whole house and maybe you and the family. Insurance companies will hike your rates if you have an EV unless it’s parked on the street away from your home. You can bet on it unless they find some battery technology to kill the self-combustion issue.

If the public continues their love for big SUVs and full size pickups they will be driving around in these 7,000 - 8,000 lb behemoths will a wheel loading equivalent to a 16 wheeler.

I know this will hit some the wrong way in so many days, but I'll share. First, a while ago I was walking through my neighborhood at dusk and had two electric cars go by. You know, it was really nice because they didn't break the peacefulness. We have chargers and a number around us. Second, I was with my liberal friends last night chewing the fat at a cookout. You all know I am liberal. They were talking and said something that even surprised me. They said what we need in the US is mandatory service because it would equalize everyone and give perspective, but then said the US would never go for it because we argue for our rights and universal service would be branded as socialism. That was a strange twist for me. These friends are too. Many own an electric for driving around town and a high performance for driving otherwise. I don't think they would impose it on you guys, and other parts of the country, but for them, this is just what we talk about. Really strange but worth knowing about.

@kiwigtx : you guys 60 hz or 50hz?
50 Hz, 230 volts.
M.E.N. system - multiple earthed neutral.....neutral is earthed (grounded) all across the network....from the local transformers to each installation.

Our Earth (ground) wires are all fully insulated - Green/yellow

I concede that 60 Hz is a better system - it makes easy work for clocks, and timed devices.....60 Hz, 60 seconds.... :)

There have been some posts in other threads about battery fires. They get a lot of attention because they're new and unusual so if a rare occurrence happens, it goes on the news. Regular burning gas powered cars aren't as exciting, but I've seen a couple in the last half a year. Haven't seen any mention of local spontaneious EV fires with 60,000 battery cars in my province.

No one mentioned "the propensity for EVs to spontaneously self-combust" because the very word "propensity" suggests that it's natural for electric cars to behave in that way, which of course they do not.

But speaking of fires, the Fire Department is getting some new electric cars... https://www.government-fleet.com/10143832/canadian-fire-department-replaces-larger-vehicles-with-evs

Some early EV Lithium Ion battery packs were of the Lithium-Cobalt chemistry, which does catch fire. The automotive industry shifted to Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo4) which is nearly impossible to ignite (but has less energy density than Cobalt). Lately, they're using other chemistries, equally impervious to self-ignition.

Apparently GM hasn’t made the switch yet on the Bolt. It’s ironic that since 60% of electrical production in the US is by fossil fuel, these EVs are still powered mostly by fossil fuel.

Nope, GM decided the new Ultium Drive Platform technology for the Bolt would be too costly, opting instead to keep the current battery type and lower the price by $5,000 for 2022 while adding some new features. Starting price is now $31,995. Cadillac and Hummer get the new technology though.

....like a fire extinguisher.

just sayin'

doesn't most of the globalists Titanium especially & Nickle supplies
come from that region ?
either China, Russia or Ukraine

yet you see these douches on TV pushing 'silver' hard
& it hasn't 'hardly' moved up in 20 years,
just like them (old) commercials
maybe a dollar or $2, up & down, at best

that's also heavily mined there
