Since I put the front end back together on my 440 I have had a small leak on the thermostat housing after 2 gasket replacements.
Well been down this road before over the years.
Checked housing for true flat. It was.
Checked old cast pump housing with straight edge. Recess in housing was correct depth.
Useing felpro gaskets each time with a wipe of ultra black.
By the 3rd time I was getting tired of this.
I mean the darn thing is drivable it was just a seep.
I had grabbed a 9/16 wrench after draining down the radiator and removing the hose. The left side 3/8 bolt was not as tight as it should be.
Long story short the threads in the housing were worn just enough to let that bolt loosen up after a heat cycle.
Old cast pump housing is off a 65 383.
Now I was not leaving thing loose on assembly , bolts were snugged down good.
I did not heli coil it or tap it out larger. Just grabbed a little longer bolt and put a nut on the bottom when going back together
Its finally fixed lol.
