guys,

I wasnt able to secure the original suede black paint for my 69 RR dash and we used a PPG flat black finish.
We are building a car that will be shown, does it make sense to redo the dash with the suede paint? I found supply from Mike Mancini. Will judges note in incorrect dash paint? Is this a big deal or not?

dash paint

I would, just finished mine and ther's no subsitute in my opinion. Remember, in this hobby, the job is never done right until its done twice.....

ok... sounds like I will give it a shot. It does seem like a lot of body shops dont want to use paint that the customer brings in though...

my dash is out like yours and I am prepping for paint my problem is my dash is med dark blue ditzler code 2020 not sure if I should do it in urethane

guys i went through the exact same thing & i found out through PPG & a few old school body men that if your your body man sprays this very "dry" it gives the exact same suede finish.
by dry terminology i believe it's less thinner & they have the amount of air that comes out of the gun turned up.

This is what I did. I used PPG flatenned lacquer and sprayed it dry with a touch up gun. On the lower dash it looks perfect IMHO. On the top of the dash - because I was painting it with the windshield in place - it came out a little too dry and too rough. It looks good, but it feels too rough to the touch on top. If painting out of the car you should be able to get a satisfactory finish overall. But overall it looks very good and very stock. These probably aren't close enough to show the finish clearly but you get the idea.

BTW - the steering wheel was a used black one I found in excellent shape and I had the paint store mix ups some single stage urethane to match the interior and spray it. I don't wear rings so there hasn't been any problem with wear or chipping. Still looks great after about 6 years.

I ended up buying the correct paint from mike Mancini and it turned out perfect!
