Hello Boys...

I bought a set of MOSER Green bearings.... for my newest "Toy " a 73 Chally...
can someone tell me, how to remove the thrust block inside the diff ?( OPEN DIFF ! )

With a Sure Grip Diff . the Story is quite easy....the small thrust pins will come out easy with a magnet... But the thrust block is much bigger in Diameter....so the "magnet-trick" will not work....

Any thoughts ?

Thank you

Jurgen

Damn, if only you were in USA brasil.

You could just go to the gun store and get a Barrett M82 * #. Pull the axles, and lying on your belly, aim down the axle tube and just off centre of the pinion gear shaft. Now brace yourself and gently squeeze the trigger. The thrust block will be gone for ever. (* can substitute M82 with any other super high powered hunting/assault/sniper rifle. # make sure nobody is in line with the other axle tube for a distance of several miles.)

The other way would be to pull the centre out and dismantle it t remove the thrust block. Are you sure you need to remove it?

The clutch type Sure Grip has a small pin but it shouldn't be so easy to remove with a magnet. The cone type Sure Grip (Borg Warner) has to be removed and disassembled in order to remove the center pin and same goes for any open rear. If you can trial fit the axles with the new bearings and the retaining plate completely faces up with the rear end flanges, then you will probably be ok. However, I don't like leaving the pin in place....it's just peace of mind knowing that it's not in there but I've never heard anyone say it did any damage leaving it.

...so here is my "result"..... I left the Thrustblock in place... but I shortent the axleshafts just a "bit" about 1/10 of an Inch each side... so I will be safe ! Leaving the TB in place will put some preussse on the bearings
( I checked that with my dial in gauge )....

I know...that some guys here will say.why did you do that ... But I will stay with the MOSER Bearings... so ...

Even I f they fail one day..

Greetings Juergen
