To Flame or Not to Flame is the Question?

I like them on lead sleds, or 50s rods. That's about it. Newer stuff, it makes me think "I rear ended someone, bought a new grille, but it was the wrong color and we couldn't get it to match so we just turned it into a flame job so it wouldn't look out of place".

Mine, bought it that way.
I will paint it maybe this year?
I'm not a fan of the color combo but the flames are growing on me. Maybe light blue like B3? with silver pearl ghost flames only back to middle of front fenders?
:realcrazy:
Maybe- having too much fun just driving it as is.
Or sell it.

Kinda like it the way it is. If it was mine.... I'd lower it about half a foot, and put some bling wheels on it. (never have really liked black wheels.....)

Done right they look good on just about anything. But its a combination of the base color, the flame colors and the flame design. There were more photos here of flame jobs I like than dislike.

I have a small one-man golf cart I was contemplating flaming so I figured I should should practice on something first. This is a plastic 1/2 Harley tank - made just for this purpose. First the black was shot from a rattle can. Next the flames were laid out with pinstripe tape. Then masked off the black. On something this small I didn't bother sketching them first, just trial and error till I got a shape I liked. Next laid down a couple coats of pearl white for the base. Next come transparent colors so the pearl will show through.

stance & the proper wheel/choices can help a whole bunch
make or break it even

agreed...
(or any painted steel wheels, for that matter, poverty caps or not, it's overdone)

Add highlights , etc. When you're satisfied let it dry then peel off the tape to see how it turned out.

I want to point out that I'm NOT a painter of any sort. I just like to try my hand at anything. This was done with a $10 touch-up gun from Harbor Freight and a few small bottles of Auto-Air Custom Colors. The last stage was to freehand pinstripe the flames with One-Shot. This is something that takes a LOT of practice - which I was too impatient for. So the end result looks good from far but far from good BUT I learned a ton from just this one exercise.

Correct on the stance, PO put in a rear from an 80s? Pickup. 7 leaves and all. The rear will get lowered when it gets replaced. As for the front, NOBODY makes a drop spindle or a replacement spindle for that matter. The only alternative I have now is to go full IFS, or make something work. Unless some truck guru has better information than I can come up with, I'm told a Crown Vic front suspension will work.
Sorry for thread diversion.

Check out QA1 project Corkscrew
it's bit later version, it's like a 68 (?) D100
not the cheapest deal, but good value for the $$$
bolt in, very lil welding, update to newer style spindle
& serviceable brakes later etc,
available to later model too

I did see one with the Crown Vic deal on 'Fast & Loud'
Aarons hack & lower
Frankinstien'd 64-ish D100 with a freaken' LS swap
it was pretty extensive to convert

here's some flames fort ya'

23 Ford T F-A Fire Burnout night.jpg

old Nanook of the North below, with flames, in B&W unfortunately
it was Green metalflake, with white candied flames,
ghosted in a shitload of different colored pearls (IIRC)
in person, in the sun, it was spectacular/wild

Some things 'flames works', some not so much
some are way too much
a racecar, a real racecar it works, if done tastefully

for good measures

Mike Levallie (spell ? he was from Wash. State, RIP Mike)
was great at the true-flames stuff, he was on many a show
I liked a few he did
One specifically with 'faint blues & whites', on a pearl white car
sorry I couldn't find the photo

Yup ! Biggest problem was the curves. Afterwards it occurred to me that I was tilting the brush to the inside of the curve when I should have been tilting it slightly to the outside. But the ideal thing would have been to get some practice beforehand instead of the ol' "hold my beer" !!!

Yes, make some flat panels and practice. These designs are good to practice. Many styles are on the internet.

I actually like it I think you should lower the front end. Get some better wheels keep the black wheel thing going.
