Torque converter wear pattern

What would cause this wear patter on a torque converter. 727 trans FTI converter. Trans is original 77 with tf2 kit and the converter. The wear on the worse side is .004. The good side is .001

Are you running a Bronze pump bushing? Babbit is easier on converter snounts. Posible the bell hos=using is out of alingment, but unlikely. If it doesn't leak polish it and run it. A good converter shop can replace the neck if thats what you want.

I see trans parts on the floor, do you have it apart?

Take the reaction shaft off the front pump and inspect the bushing.

Yes, i have it apart. I looked at the bushing which doest look bad. I have a bushing set but there bronze. It doesnt leak so ill just polish it up and run it.

I run bronze front pump bushings with no problems

Transgo used to recommend Powerglide bushings to tighten up clearance to slow down converter drainback as I recall. They were Babbit coated. I have used both materials over the decades with success. It certainly won't hurt to check trans to crankshaft concentricity either.

I’ve used the turbo 350 Chevy pump bushing in almost every 727. It’s a little wider and stabilizes the converter better. It’s also a few thou thicker on the inside diameter so u have to measure the converter hub to make sure u end up with enough clearance. Kim

Use a babbit brg, not bronze. This the SAME problem as using an aftermarket oil pump drive with a bronze bush.
