Transmission Carnage

Well, I have the transmission apart again and nothing really jumps out at me.
I’m only getting.005-.006” runout in the main/tail shaft when spun on the rear bearing. That doesn’t seem like enough to cause a problem.

The input shaft looks good.

I’m going to take the drive shaft to get checked, but I don’t see how it would get out of balance all of a sudden.

I’ll give Brewers a call tomorrow and see if they can point me in the right direction.

Can’t see anything wrong with the transmission.

I had the driveshaft rebalanced, they said it was out a little.

I’m going to have to pull the bellhousing, clutch and flywheel to check next

Hope you get it figured out.

So far the only thing I have found out of wack is the flywheel is out of parallel .007”.

I had it ground this spring by my regular guy and didn’t check it.

That doesn’t seem like enough to cause a big problem, but I’m going to have it ground again.

I will see if they can balance the assembly.

And also there’s a chunk out of the disk. I don’t know if it’s enough to cause a problem. I guess I’ll check with ram on that.

The vibration I was getting is about 90% gone so I’m happy with that.

When I got a good look at the drive shaft it seems like they added about twice as much weight as was on there. I don’t know why that was necessary.

I did finally go a couple rounds yesterday and took runner up (in the final this time) in UMTR street stick. I kind of babied the car though, launched at lower rpm and granny shifting. Trying to win and keep it in one piece. The clutch seems close to where it should be, maybe some fine tuning yet.

We were at Kuhnle yesterday. They ran a couple of jet cars and nostalgia pro stocks so it was a fun day.

Speaking about transmission carnage. This happened at my local track last Friday night. Picture taken by someone else.

Who’s not thinking drum. I never heard that anyone had found it but perhaps REM knows more. REM??

The track FB page said that it ended the night. Apparently it happened on the big end.
Last week at Kuhnle a guy oiled it down with atf after the stripe. It was a big old Buick Electra that didn’t look like it had been down the track before. He did it right and pulled off to the side. It still took upwards of 30 minutes to clean up.

It bet that was a thrilling ride to have that exit the vehicle at top speed!
The dude over in the other lane lost a front tire out of the mishap. Was hunting to borrow a spare on Saturday.

He had lost the driveshaft before this. Did that create a sprag issue? Sounds plausible. But it happening down track seems odd? I saw a pic of the back of the motor. About 2 or 3 bolts were holding a small remnant if the bellhousing where the starter goes. I'm kinda wondering if the bellhousing was loose

Sure possible. On Saturday a fellow brought a bolt to me. Looked like a trans mount bolt, 7/16 x .750 NC. They picked it up off the track after my pass. Wasn’t from my car. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t part of this deal from the night before.

Yes I'd heard they were still finding lots of stuff.
