Hi guys,

I recently tried to replace the u-joints of my 65 Coronet, it was originally a 273cui, but now has a 440.
The driveshaft and the 741 differential case still seem to be the original SB parts.

According to rockauto and Summit I need MOOG #315G, but they do not fit!

The cap diameter is just fine, but the distance from outside clip to outside clip is about 0.118 in. too much :icon_redface:

Maybe someone had the same problem and a part # available, would be great!

Thx

Dan

The U joint on the axle will be the smaller 7260 joint, and the 727 tranny on the 440 will be the larger 7290 joint. You will need the spicer conversion joint 1350 for the front of your shaft.

Thanks, but currently both of my u-joints have the same size.
There must be another u-joint besides the 7260 type, it is very close but not the one I need :icon_frown:

To my knowledge Chrysler only used the 7260 and the 7290 u-joints during these years.
As has been mentioned earlier there is a combo u-joint that combines the 7260 and the 7290 in the case of the drive shaft having one size and the rear end have the large yoke. The only other thing that I can say is possibly use a dana u joint.

I searched the paperwork of the previous owner and found an invoice from a driveshaft shop, they used Neapco #1-6301.

Do these u-joints have different measurements?

http://www.drivetrainamerica.com/p-6063-neapco-1-6301-7260-series-u-joint.aspx (Neapco #1-6301)

http://www.discountautoparts.com/item.wws?sku=315G&itempk=136285&mfr=PRECISION&weight=1.053 (Precison/Moog #315G)

Those are both 7260 types, but I havent tried the Neapco one.
It is always a pain ordering from overseas and figure out that the part does not fit you know..... :eusa_shifty:

The Neapco 1-6301 is the same as the 7260. I said that the driveshaft had 7260's on both ends, and that the slip yoke for a 727 will be the 7290, although 7260 units are out there too. Measure inside the ears, and you should have 2.125" for a 7260 joint, and 6.625" for a 7290 joint.

The only Chrysler joints are the 7260, 7290, and a Dana (1330X I believe). If the joints are for the smaller 7260, and you say that they are about 0.118" wider, then on of two things are happening:

1) The joint has dropped a roller sideways inside, not allowing you to completely compress it
2) The joint is being measured in your hand and is not fully compressed (even your pic shows one side farther out than the others)

THANKS!!
Option 2 might be the problem.
I tried to compress it with a bench vice and measured it again, still was too wide.

I`ll give it a last try....... otherwise a driveshaft shop can fix it and loose his mind :evil6:

get stuff . please post up what the resolution turned out to be.
