Does anyone know what the correct routing of the vacuum lines to the can under the battery tray is? Does the one from the manifold go to the top nipple of the can or the bottom? Thanks.

And thank you back sir. Happens, but not as much as you would expect. I do notice you thank me a lot, and I appreciate it. This is how we mentor the young guys, and older ones new to the hobby. When we are gone, who will pass on the knowledge, tips, info??

I have a question similar to the one above. My car came with this same type vacuum can under the battery tray, but I don't have hide away headlights. Was there any other uses for the can than this? Thanks in advance.

I beleive many cars at that time had potential vacum issues...at a certain RPM range perhaps?
So, if some could be stored, it could be used when needed?

But yes, my 70 Superbee has a Vacum Can, no hidden headlights...

It would seem plausible that a high performance V8 back in the day could have a vacuum can when a hot cam was installed at the factory. All I can say for certain is that I have only seen them on Chargers with hide-a-ways.

My 318 std coupe 71 Charger is an AC car and it has the vacuum canister under the battery tray. I too have wondered which hose goes where coming from the intake manifold. Right now it plugs into the center port on the canister. I have since relocated the cannister to behind the passenger door next to the door hinges. There is alot of space in there behind the plastic splash shield. It doesn't interfere with the door opening/closing and the vacuum lines from the manifold to the vacuum canister and then to the heat/AC switch are shorter and out of sight. The battery is eventually going in the trunk anyway and I wanted to clean up the engine compartment.

Again, I did send a thanks as soon as I got back on the site. That's why I try to always send a thanks initially as sometimes I can't get back right away. Anyways, mine is an A/C car with an electric motor for the headlight doors. Is the routing the same for the A/C as the vacuum door diagram? Thanks again in advance. The two vacuum hoses for my A/C application are the same size coming from the manifold tee and the heater box. Again thanks.

Bee71 - FYI - If you follow the vacuum lines from the manifold to the HVAC system it doesn't go to the heater box. The line from the manifold goes straight to the switch assy on the dash. The switch then redirects the vacuum to the various vacuum operated doors on the heater box depending on what position the switch is in (DEF, HEAT, AC, MAX AC, VENT). The incoming vacuum line from the manifold is also tee'd (split) to supply incoming vacuum for the temp switch (COLD, WARM). This switch then opens/closes the vacuum operated heater valve in the engine compartment.

Sorry that I'm still confused,but other posts say that the vacuum can is a reservoir for the A/C switch system. One line from the manifold tee goes to the can,the other line from the can does route through the firewall below the fan motor I assume then goes to the switch assembly.The other vacuum line coming out of the same grommet in the firewall goes to the water valve.I'm trying to determine which nipple on the can should be connected to the tee on the intake manifold.

No worries, I'm confused on that issue as well. The pic on the diagram I posted above isn't really clear on that and I couldn't find anything else that says which nipple to use. My car is going back on the road soon so I'm just gonna try each one to see which works best. At least we only have 2 choices.

Some have suggested that the can was for the air grabber. It was put on early ready for that option whether it was ordered or not. ?????
