Guys what is your go to Valve Cover gasket on a bigblock engine.
Mind you I run stock valve covers but on 440 source aluminum heads.

I always use FelPro 1612 thick gaskets and a product that is really good for aluminum (Yama-Bond) or equivalent.

I was having good luck but not everytime.

Please let me know products of choice.
Thanks Ron

Started using this early 70's. Been using it ever since.

I use those gaskets with all configurations. Ultra black to the cover.. light smear of silicone grease to the head. Remember it's a machined surface so no adhesive necessary on the head.
Then you can take the covers on / off whenever you wish

For a original style stamp steel cover cork is the best in my opinion.
Make sure the cover flanges / edges are true , seal the gaskets to the covers with some regular old gasket sealer , napa , Indian head ect.
Don't over tighten.
That's what works for me.

It's amazing this stuff is still made and used....especially when the silicon based RTV products are a far superior product......seals easily, withstand automotive lubricants and operating temps, easy clean up and removal....like Pernatex Black or one of their other products. ........just my opinion......

i've had issues with cast heads and ended up getting the thick black gaskets with indian head sealant to seal. on a machined aluminum surface with a flat valve cover surface i'd assume this stuff would be plenty. i have fought about half of my mopars to seal at the valve cover gaskets at some point ha. they can be tricky.

That’s also what I use. Additionally, after the gasket sealer has set, and before installing the valve covers, I place a thin coat of grease on the gasket face. It keeps the cork from sticking to the head.

I once tried a black gasket set that the local auto parts supply swore was the best. Installed as directed on instructions. Failed miserably! Went back to cork successfully.

Well........the FEL PRO instructions do say "Apply quick drying adhesive", so the Gasket Shellac is probably the correct choice here. Torque to "9 inch pounds"...isn't that 1 Ft pound?

I'm going from the Moroso Blue Silicone gaskets back to the Fel Pro VS50145R. Those blue silicone gaskets always seeped at the back of the valve covers. Hopefully these will seal a bit better; every big block MOPAR I've ever owned tended to seep at the rear of the valve covers with some less than others. Thank you all for the help and feedback!

I have the blue, I think moroso brand gaskets. Solid cam, so wanted something re-useable.

I use Superformance gaskets whenever possible. And Indianhead sealer when called for...
